This week we said good-bye to a very dear and loved friend; Don.
Don was homeless from the age of 12 and spent some time at
the Hillside recovery home. Scott and I used to pick up Don and his friend Chris for church services and Adopt-A-Block each week so we got a chance to get to know him and love him. Don spent alot of time at the church, he would clean and do whatever we needed help with.
One time he even washed my car while I worked.
He had a tremendously generous heart and genuinely cared for others.
He once told us that he played the lottery and if he ever won he was going to buy us a new church and himself a trailer. Then park the trailer next to the church and live there so he could stay close by. I told him that would be awesome!
The next day to my suprise I pulled up to the church and sure enough there was a trailer parked in front! No, it did not belong to Don- it was belonged to the company next door to us but, we all got a good laugh out of it...Don especially!
My life is changed after knowing him.
He went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning Sept. 3rd.
This morning we showed a video of pictures and footage of Don during our church service and many of his friends from the homeless community came to celebrate Don's life with us. It was a bitter-sweet moment.
Don will truly be missed, we loved him- he was a GREAT friend!
